London Fashion Week & Mehndi Designs

Last weekend, I randomly got the chance to go to & help out at a fashion show London Fashion Week… Very bizarre as it was the last place I thought I would get to go seeing as I work in Television. I do enjoy fashion though and it was a great experience!

I lent a hand to Wah Nails, putting baby pink and grey tips on the models for the Julian J. Smith show at On|Off. You can see them in the photo above, which is a screen shot from the On|Off backstage footage. It was fun to be backstage and one of the makeup artists even gave me a free MAC bronzer, which was a nice bonus! I also got to catch the Bryce Aime show – rather interesting I must say!

I wish I had got some pics of the models hands, but you can see them very briefly in the CATWALK VIDEO and a snippet, like the photo above, in the BACKSTAGE FOOTAGE.

On another note, but not entirely:

I did nails at another charity event on Sunday and was most looking forward to getting some Henna done on my hands! I love the look of traditional Mehndi designs and would get them done all the time if I could. The lovely Kiran from Ray of Light Henna did these lovely patterns on my hands at the event and I love ’em! Hopefully I can get more done from her again soon!

Oh, and I raised £100 for a Cancer charity at the event, with help from my mum who was on base & top coat duty! I’ll post the pics when I get them back from the photographer/event organisers.

Soo, I can’t think of a name for these nails! I got some ideas from this great Tumblr site: who post photos of great nail designs, submitted by readers. The design I came up with is a mixture of a couple I’ve seen on there, with my own little twist! And of course, I had to add some rhinestones, seeing as they’ve become my favourite new thing to add to my designs!

They remind me somewhat of the neony dancehall colours you see on dancers outfits etc and the thumb design came from a Rihanna Rude Boy video inspired manicure, so I guess it kinda fits?

I also like that each nail is different!

I mainly used Barry M colours, in Flamingo Pink (my new fave!) Turquoise Blue & Yellow. The green, red, white, gold glitter and black are all Mercia Nail Art Pens. The rhinestones are from Ebay. I’m getting better at doing straight lines!

Pink, Gold & Black

Just whipped up this classy number… I’ll be interested to see how long it lasts, especially as I’m working a 13 hour day tomorrow, but we’ll see! It’s so annoying when you do a really nice design at the totally wrong time, but I guess I can always do it again when I’m gonna show them off properly!

The pink is Barry M’s new colour Flamingo Pink & the gold is from Barry M too. The black rhinestones are from a set I bought from Ebay.

What do you think?

Boxing Kitten

A while back, I saw THIS designer profile on Maya A. Lake, the founder of Boxing Kitten. I immediately loved her line as I’m a huge fan of bold prints, bright colours and especially ethnic prints! Tribal and African prints are set to be a huge trend for Spring/Summer ’10, so naturally Boxing Kitten is steadily garnering more attention, helped by the fact that Alicia Keys and Beyonce just wore custom made pieces in their new video for ‘Put It In a Love Song’.

Stars like Erykah Badu, Solange and Fergie have already been seen wearing Maya’s clothes and I’m hoping the range will be more widely available soon because I would LOVE to rock some of the Boxing Kitten dresses come summer! It’s soo me! The only problem is the price tag, which I’m suspecting has gone up since the line has become more popular with the celebs, so I may be turning to Ebay for something similar if my funds don’t quite cut it.

Check out to see the entire range in the online store and to read more about Maya – she’s a very inspiring woman and a great example to all young entrepreneurs!

Oh and P.S. My birthday’s coming up in May, so if anybody wants to put some funds in a jar to buy me the dress below, I will proper love you forever. Like, really, truly love you! (It’s only $181.30 which is really £115.60, so a real bargain if you ask me! Ok, who am I kidding, but look at it, in all it’s clashing print glory and tell me you don’t love it?! HAWT!)

Hands 4 Haiti

When the Haiti disaster happened, I wanted to do what I could to help but what I could give myself wasn’t much, so my mum and I decided to have a little party to raise money. She invited about 30 of her friends over for an evening of Karaoke and food and I did manicures for £10 each, all proceeds going to Haiti.

It was a real hit and we raised £145 in the end! I was very pleased and the ladies loved their nails! After the jump are a few pics of some of the designs I did. It was an older crowd so they weren’t keen on going too crazy, but as you can see they all loved the rhinestones! We’ve given the money through the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal as it’s been recommended by the BBC and other reputable sources. It just shows that it doesn’t take much to raise a bit of money for a good cause!

Keep reading after the jump to see some of the ladies’ nail designs!
