There’s Nothing Like This

Over the weekend I had the privilege of performing poetry at a wedding. The groom was a gentleman I’d been working with last year and after coming to one of my performances, he had asked me to write a poem for him and his Fianceé that could be read at their wedding. The only requirements from is side was that the poem had to contain the words ‘I Love You So Many’ as that’s what they say to each other. So, off I go to write this poem, which turns out to be entirely based around the phrase. It’s pretty cheesy but just the kinda thing couples in love, LOVE!

Turns out he and his Fianceé loved it so much that they both cried when they read it and asked me to perform it for them at the ceremony. Which brings us to today…

It was a lovely wedding, the poem went down a treat and to top it all off, @NappyNubianPoet (or Carol Ohemaa for those in the real, non-twitter world) was my date, so I had great company too! For those that are interested, here’s what I wore:

It’s a little 1950’s esque number from River Island. Of course, I couldn’t disappoint on the nail front. I decided to go matching, so here we have the cherries on mint green look:

Oh, and did I mention that Omar performed at the wedding too?! Yes, THE Omar. The *sings* ‘There’s nothing like thisss’ Omar! (Hence the title of this post)

Don’t worry, we didn’t let him get away without getting photographic evidence (click ’em to see bigger)

Carol & Omar

Me & Omar

All in all, a great way to spend a Saturday & it was SO beautiful to see two people so in love and so happy, on such a special day, among their family and friends. It was wonderful to witness it and an honour to be a part of it.

London Fashion Week & Mehndi Designs

Last weekend, I randomly got the chance to go to & help out at a fashion show London Fashion Week… Very bizarre as it was the last place I thought I would get to go seeing as I work in Television. I do enjoy fashion though and it was a great experience!

I lent a hand to Wah Nails, putting baby pink and grey tips on the models for the Julian J. Smith show at On|Off. You can see them in the photo above, which is a screen shot from the On|Off backstage footage. It was fun to be backstage and one of the makeup artists even gave me a free MAC bronzer, which was a nice bonus! I also got to catch the Bryce Aime show – rather interesting I must say!

I wish I had got some pics of the models hands, but you can see them very briefly in the CATWALK VIDEO and a snippet, like the photo above, in the BACKSTAGE FOOTAGE.

On another note, but not entirely:

I did nails at another charity event on Sunday and was most looking forward to getting some Henna done on my hands! I love the look of traditional Mehndi designs and would get them done all the time if I could. The lovely Kiran from Ray of Light Henna did these lovely patterns on my hands at the event and I love ’em! Hopefully I can get more done from her again soon!

Oh, and I raised £100 for a Cancer charity at the event, with help from my mum who was on base & top coat duty! I’ll post the pics when I get them back from the photographer/event organisers.

Boxing Kitten

A while back, I saw THIS designer profile on Maya A. Lake, the founder of Boxing Kitten. I immediately loved her line as I’m a huge fan of bold prints, bright colours and especially ethnic prints! Tribal and African prints are set to be a huge trend for Spring/Summer ’10, so naturally Boxing Kitten is steadily garnering more attention, helped by the fact that Alicia Keys and Beyonce just wore custom made pieces in their new video for ‘Put It In a Love Song’.

Stars like Erykah Badu, Solange and Fergie have already been seen wearing Maya’s clothes and I’m hoping the range will be more widely available soon because I would LOVE to rock some of the Boxing Kitten dresses come summer! It’s soo me! The only problem is the price tag, which I’m suspecting has gone up since the line has become more popular with the celebs, so I may be turning to Ebay for something similar if my funds don’t quite cut it.

Check out to see the entire range in the online store and to read more about Maya – she’s a very inspiring woman and a great example to all young entrepreneurs!

Oh and P.S. My birthday’s coming up in May, so if anybody wants to put some funds in a jar to buy me the dress below, I will proper love you forever. Like, really, truly love you! (It’s only $181.30 which is really £115.60, so a real bargain if you ask me! Ok, who am I kidding, but look at it, in all it’s clashing print glory and tell me you don’t love it?! HAWT!)

Life ain’t so bad at all…. livin off the wall

I just wanted to add that I love how they’re playing MJ songs on every radio station, like, every other song! It’s like a revival. I’m enjoying it, but I wonder how the people who weren’t fans are holding up. At least some of Mike’s debt will get cleared with all the royalties.

I think even the fashion industry might be heavily influenced by Michael this next season, cause shoulder pads are coming back in anyway, so they might be adding a bit more gold and glitter to the already fashionable military jackets, and maybe the Wayfarers will be replaced once again by Aviators and black skinny jeans with white socks will be gracing runways all over. Even mocassin type shoes are coming back! It’s gona happen, I can feel it….. and if it doesn’t, then I might just bring it back myself! LOL.

Nail art of the moment

I think I might make a feature of this, but not how I’ve said nails of the MOMENT and not week, cause I don’t know if I can keep this up as a weekly thing, but we’ll see.

So for this nail design I used Barry M polish in bright purple for the base ( thanks to precious who gave it to me!!) I love the colour! And then For the tiger stripes I used a black polish with a thin brush, which you can get from sallys or the Internet. Obviously I used top and base coat to make it last. I just got a new top coat by OPI which is called patent leather and it makes the polish look extra shiny!! Check em out:
